One of the best things about these printables is that they are super simple to prepare. Just print out enough copies for however many kids will be completing them, add some fun writing tools, and you are all set!

Regular crayons or colored pencils work great, however we sometimes also like to add in skinny markers.  They hold similar to a pencil but have such vivid colors. Plus – kids LOVE to use markers! Seriously, if you want instant engagement, just add markers.

Skinny markers are a great writing tool to use for this activity. They provide fun, vivid colors!

If placing this activity in a literacy center, you could laminate the Turkey Trace printables for repeated use. Add in some dry erase markers and you’re all set!

Ways to Use the Alphabet Tracing Printables

Decide whether your students will work on uppercase letters, lowercase letters, or perhaps both. I typically offer both as an option for my kids, as the purpose of this activity is for exposure and practicing tracing skills. For kids just starting to write, you may find uppercase letters are easier for them to form due to the strokes involved, so you may want to start there.

If the students are working independently, they can work on their penmanship by tracing all of the letters in a variety of rainbow colors.

In a small group, I typically like to make it more game-like by calling out a letter name and having the kids search for it before they trace it. This works on letter identification as well as handwriting.

You could even play a beginning sounds version by calling out the sound and having them find the matching letter.

However you play, these simple yet effective printables are sure to be super fun!
