Word Problems for Kindergarten Students!

This pack contains back to school and early fall themes such as school supplies and apples.

It is designed for beginning Kindergarten students. There are no equations in this set. Rather, this set focuses on listening and recording just one number at a time, as well as counting, one-to-one correspondence, and number writing. Equations begin in a later set, as these packs are designed to progress over time as the students develop.

There are also cover pages (for both August and September) if you want to have word problem journals. Simply print the entire pack 2-sided, staple, and your students have a word problem journal for the month!

***TIPS and Instructions – Students listen to or read the word problem. (in Kindergarten, it is almost always necessary to read the problems aloud). I also highly recommend the use of cubes or other manipulatives so that they may have a more concrete example.

It is up to you if you require the drawings. I often teach my students that using circles or tallies can count as a drawing because I don’t want the focus to be the “artwork.” I am hopeful these help you and your Kindergarteners develop word problem practice!

This pack supports the following Common Core Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4.A
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4.B
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
