Lion and Lamb Printable Alphabet Puzzles
If you teach your littles about months and seasons, March is one of the more interesting months. In some places it’s full on spring, and in others it’s still the end of winter. For many, though, it really is when winter makes its last roar, and spring gently wanders in.
How to Use these Puzzles
This alphabet activity makes a cute March literacy center or small group activity.
Just print and laminate the lion and lamb puzzle pieces for durability. Then, make enough copies of the recording sheet for each child. (You may want to copy them double-sided for kiddos who work quickly.)
You can set these puzzles up in a way that gives students a chance to move around the room:
- Lay the lamb cards face up on a table on one side of the room.
- Then, on the opposite side of the room, lay out the lion cards face down.
- Have the child turn over one lion card, and then cross the room to retrieve its match.
- Repeat until they’ve matched all the cards.

Once they’ve matched all the pieces, they can sit down and fill in the recording sheet with fun writing tools. Alternatively, you can have them name each letter out loud as they take apart the puzzles and put them away for the next child.
If you work on this letter matching activity in a small group, you can talk about the similarities and differences of each letter pair.
You could sort the letters into pairs where the uppercase and lowercase are very similar, such as C and c, versus pairs where they are very different, such as D and d.
Then, once the kids can match the letters independently, this can go in a literacy center.
