Okay, so I have to admit – my kids learned some lyrics to Rihanna’s “Umbrella” the day we made this U is for Umbrella Kindergarten Letter U Craft. I couldn’t help myself!
Whether you choose a more kid-friendly song – or teach them a bit of the routine from Singin’ in the Rain – this easy letter craft is the perfect way to incorporate the letter U into an recognizable, everyday object craft.
Letter U Craft – U is for Umbrella Craft
First, gather your materials:
- various colors of construction paper
- white cardstock or construction paper
- glue sticks
- scissors (for the parent/teacher)
Using the scissors, cut a out umbrella shapes and letter “u” out of the colored paper and strips of white paper the same thickness as your u’s stem for the connecting part of the umbrella.
Give the kids a u, umbrella shape, and a strip of paper, along with the glue sticks. My kids also always have access to markers and crayons, so keep that in mind if you want to allow the children to personalize their crafts even further.
While some of our kindergarten letter crafts are a bit more involved and complicated, I like providing simple ones as well – they are great for the less crafty kids in our bunch, and there is always the option for our more crafty kids to embellish the umbrellas with an assortment of treasures.
These more simple letter craft ideas are also great for fitting in a letter craft on an otherwise busy day – or for pairing with a more complicated letter craft if your schedule necessitates covering more than one letter each day.
Our U is for Umbrella Letter U Craft was an easy kindergarten craft that would be cute to hang on the walls during the Spring or after reading a classic such as Jan Brett’s the Umbrella.
